I am excited to report that lately I have been able to strengthen
my relationship with the pool. I seem to
have been forgiven for neglecting it for far too long. I am starting out small and with short
distances, if things go well I might actually be able to do another half
ironman this coming summer. To not only
improve my swimming (again) but to prevent boredom I am using various pieces of
equipment in my training. Cap, goggles
and ear plugs – you mean people swim without them?! Paddles – helps strengthen my shoulders but I can easily overdo it.
Kickboard – only with fins (I am an upper body swimmer and I do not have
the strength in my kick to go anywhere by just kicking). Buoy – again, I am an upper body swimmer so
it is no big deal. The snorkel – HIDE YOUR
CHILDREN!!!! I purchased one before things went crazy at the beginning of the
year but had not had a chance to use it until recently. I swear that thing is trying to kill me! As
the saying says… what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, I guess the snorkel just
wants to make me stronger! Yes, I am
well aware of the fact that I am talking about an inanimate object as if it was
a real live (breathing) thing. Trust me,
the first time I tried using it the evil thing wanted to drown me!!!!
Reverting back to my size for a moment, I have to give
serious kudos to TYR because they have competitive suites that fit me! Once I am finally able to get back into “normal”
range it isn’t such a big deal, but Speedo’s larger suites make me feel like a
stuffed sausage. Come to think of it, I
am pretty sure all of my swimming stuff is TYR! They make good products, so I
will stick with them!
Do not let what you can not do; interfere with what you can do.
